Week Six - Perfectly Fitting

Kindness Received

Each year we look forward to a day of science, technology, engineering and math fun at BSU and each year we are greeted by a fabulous group of volunteers who make it happen.   These volunteers are professors, college students, high school students representing various clubs, members of the community from a variety of businesses such as Twiga, The Discovery Center, Idaho Power, United Water, and The Micron Foundation, just to name a few.    These folks create workshops and activities that give us hands on experience; They interact in a way that makes science and math accessible to those of us who have limited experience.   They open our eyes to possibilities we didn't know existed.   They practice patience as we learn.    I imagine that they do this because they love what they do.    I imagine that many of them don't realize that what we receive is far beyond the lesson they teach; We receive a great example of how to give and make a difference.

Week 5

Week 5:

These books are ready to go to the library on Wednesday afternoon.   There is another pile of books that is waiting for the Pony Express to deliver to RTR.

** Our Kindness vessle changed this week because Melon needed the vase.    This bowl is special because it's from Moolah.    Now we get to see it every day.

Week 4 - Rough Start But Completed Immediately!!

Lil' drew her kindness for the week this morning.   Her first kindness said to Chalk Bomb a neighbors driveway with a picture or message but considering that all driveways are wet and mucky from the recent weather we decided to put that one back for another time.    The second kindness Lil' drew was "Think of Your Own Random Act of Kindness".   She wasn't confident she could do this....I know better but before I could talk to her about it she had selected again.  Kindness three hit a hot spot....she cried....and then got calm and told me that she doesn't care to do this one.   I have put it aside until I can think about what might be the root of her not wanting to do it.    Kindness week 4 didn't seem like it was getting off to a good start.   Perhaps it's that we haven't officially completed our week 3 kindness....the weather and schedules just didn't cooperate for a trip the hospital this week.    In any event Lil' left the kindness jar behind and disappeared.     What she came back and presented a while later was her own kindness....It will be received by it's owner in a few days.  I hope to get a photo of it when it finds a home.


Yay...The week four kindness has found the perfect home!

Week 3 Mission

Week 3 Mission:  Finally Complete

Anyone who truly knows Lil' can probably imagine that complete look of joy, when her cheeks get a little rosy and the toothy smile is grand, that filled her face when she read about her mission for the week.  I'm wondering what she will do for her cousins, T&R, when we do this delivery.    I  have no doubt that this one will be completed by the end of our three day weekend.  

Here is the picture that we will be delivering....

  Lil' delivered the picture to the hospital today.   Here is a picture of her handing over her picture for the baby along with a card for the baby's Mama from Lil's Mama.  

This wonderful woman asked Lil' if she wanted to see one of the babies in the nursery up close.   Lil' of course said yes so we waited by the nursery window while she went inside, washed her hands and brought a beautiful, tiny, dark haired little boy to the window.   He was precious and Lil' told the girl through the window that the picture was for him.   The woman smiled at Lil' and put him back in his bed.   Then a nurse started to wheel him out of the nursery, she paused at the door while the first girl grabbed the picture and when the nurse had it in hand she looked back at Lil' and said she would go deliver it to the Mama right away.    There were several other workers and family visitors around as this all happened and they were all part of the moment.   One nurse said she often wondered what to write for her gratitude jar each day but today would not be hard and complimented Lil' on being such a kind person.   A father who was there with a little boy smiled and hugged the boy and said he hoped his son grew up to be so nice.   We found out a few minutes later in the elevator that their son/brother was in the NICU.   We wished them well.   The father said that we made his day as he gave my shoulder a squeeze on our way out of the elevator.    Ah, yes, mission complete...we made a difference today.

Week Two Mission Completed (Updated)

Week 2 Mission Is:

Lil' is a little less excited about this Kindness Mission than she was about week one.   On Christmas Eve she put a note on a yellow VW Beetle that has red threads like a softball on it.    It's a cute car we see at the high school regularly.    She had me write "Merry Christmas.  I like your car".   She signed it "Love, Lil    Age 6".     We'll see what she comes up with this time.

**Update**

As the week moved on it was clear to me that Lil' didn't want to do this one.   Her recent (and very random) act of kindness in leaving a note on the car was a barrier that she couldn't get past.   I asked her for a suggestion of how to be flexible and make the kindness work for her.    She decided that she would deliver her note to our favorite coffee shop and ask the workers to give it to someone in the drive through.    She got a yellow piece of paper, drew a smiley face on the front and wrote "Be excited all day, From Lil' Age 6".   She drew confetti around the word excited.    I also wrote a note.    We headed to the coffee shop before school and talked to Andrea, the manager.    Andrea was great!   She put wheels under our idea and made it happen.  

**Feb. 4th.   I saw Andrea recently.    She mentioned to me that the woman who received this Kindness was a retired school teacher and was very pleased and excited with her note.      

Kindness Bookmark Mission Accomplished

Lil' was excited on Saturday morning to find out what her first 52xKind Act would be.   Our first task is to:

Make Kindness Bookmarks and put the in books at the library.

  As you can see from the photo she got right to work.    I had an idea of what a kindness bookmark would be, it did not include sugar gliders or parakeets but I think these are PERFECT!   We will deliver them on Wednesday on our way to gymnastics.
