Before Lil' came along Mama was often found on weekend mornings in bed with the covers pulled up over hear head to block the sunshine. Days often began at noon. This hasn't happened since Lil' lived inside Mama. This weekend she was ready to "Play!" at the crack of 5:45 and 6:15, respectivly.
Saturday morning Mama took this opportunity to get housework done, giving Lil' project like "take Mama's shoe to her closet, please". Shoes for each family member were taken one by one. She took art supplies to her desk, and toys to her bucket. She also danced and did some art. Mr. Eleven was at the disc golf course, freezing his fingers off, but practicing none the less. The day also included a walk to the park in which we left the stroller at home and Lil' walked herself, about 1/2 way before employing Mr. Eleven's shoulders to ride on. It was a quick trip due to the cold but it was fun for Mama to see Lil' order Mr. Eleven "down the slide" and "up, here" and scold him for not following on the ladder close enough.
This morning Mama tried to put Lil' in bed next to her and pretend to sleep but between Belle trying to get in the covers to seek refuge from Lil' and Lil' sticking her fingers in Mama's ears it was of no use. Mr. Eleven bought Mama a few extra minutes by getting the daily oatmeal ready before leaving for his morning round. This was followed by a day that included several pees on the potty (one for each Mr. Eleven and Mama), and a declaration by Lil' to Mr. Eleven during an afternoon play session that she was going to "play soccer".
Lil' often amazes Mama with her memory. This one topped the cake. Mr. Eleven has been talking to her about soccer since July 2005, when we still called her "Bud".

I remember being with Mr. Eleven at a soccer game a long time ago. We were all there to watch "Oldest cousin" play soccer. The coaches kept saying how good everyone played and that the important part of playing was being a good team member, kind to your teammates etc. Mr. Eleven made it quite clear from the sideline that winning the game was the goal! I'm waiting for him to be a soccer coach now. Will "winning" still be the most important part?
I think watching Lil do whatever she does out there will be the best part of the game.
I'll come watch too.
Soccer is a competative sport with winners and losers. I did not write these rules, it's just the way of life. Didn't Bampa teach his girls that life isn't fair? That includes having losers at kids soccer games. Kick Ass Lil'11!
Bampa did teach us important sports and sports-related lessons:
1. Life isn't fair (if it was fair, we would have to cook dinner every 4 days and buy 1/4 of the food).
2. The referee is always right. Even when the referee is wrong, the referee is right. That's the way the game works. (this one has actually been the most profound in my life).
3. Having rules that everyone abides by, like the team with the most goals wins, is actually one of the times that life is fair.
However, the most relevant rule in this situation, in my memory, came from Lil's Mama. Bampa said how our HS team was getting "better" and Mama said "there are only columns for "W" and "L, there is no "B column".
Mr. Eleven. You are right. It is important to learn to Lose, as well as Win. Winning is an easy emotion. Losing is where the lessons are learned (well, you can learn lessons in winning too, but they are harder to find)so... I'll cheer Lil on and when she looses I'll be honored to go through the learning process. This goes for Moolah and Ace too.
